| Landlord from HELL |
[Sep. 8th, 2008|12:30 am] |
| [ | Current Mood |
| | pissed off | ] | So my landlord (besides having awful dogs that bark incessantly and no way to put AC in my room) decides since my roommate and I are moving out to fix up the apartment...at 10am on Saturday. We all know how I despise the morning. Could this not have been done during the week when I'm at work? Fine. Whatever. I get up at 8:30 so I can shower and get dressed and move my bed and all the stuff in my room out of the way. I walk out the door at 10 to go to my laundry so I'll be out of the way when he's working.
I come back at noon and no construction has been done. I go downstairs and knock on my landlord's door. I know she's in there, I CAN HEAR HER TALKING. But she won't answer the door. Whatever. I put all my stuff back and go back to sleep for 10 min. Then there is a knock on my door.
"He's here."
I look at her like she has 5 heads.
"You said he was coming at 10."
She throws her arms in the air and I say give me 10 min. So I put my clothes back on, move all the stuff out of the way and tell him to come up. I sit in the living room eating lunch and my roommate returns hoping to take a shower, but he's doing something in there (that we weren't informed about).
After working for about an hour the landlord comes back up and starts yelling at the guy for tracking dirt in her house or something. She then turns to me and throws my mail at me, and proceeds to address my roommate (she'll only talk to me if its absolutely necessary).
"So you're just going to leave me, eh? You were such a good tenant and I could have raised the rent so much more but I didn't because it was you. Now you're leaving. I can't believe you."
My roommate shrugs, and I get up and leave the apartment. I didn't care that we were under a tropical storm warning I needed out of that awful place. My roommate told me that he was STILL working on the place when she left at 7PM!!!!!!
I discovered this morning that the sink is leaking. He has to come back tomorrow and fix it. I can't wait to move... |

| | Final Fantasy Crisis Core OST - Fulfilled Desire | ] | Greetings all,
Biker fest today at Kalloway's went quite smoothly. Didn't have nearly as many people come as expected due to threat of rain for most of the morning but we did have a good 100+ bikes by the afternoon.
It reminded me much of our business - for not being a "biker" or a "rock and roll" type person, it was great to see these kind-hearted people take such pride in our country. They also had a special tent set aside for Private Bryan Fouty who I wrote about awhile ago - he had been M.I.A. in Iraq and was recently brought home for the service funeral. Lots of letters and plaques from President Bush and the US Army...
Got to meet a couple gentleman who were the sons of the 9-11 tribute bike ride and rally's organizer - they are going back to Iraq this week for another tour. May God watch over them and protect them.
Overall it was great weather by the end and great food / fun and raffles. Got to pass out more photography info and everyone that I showed photos to as I was taking them seemed to be thoroughly impressed with my work. The fact I was helping out their cause made me feel great - like I said even if I'm not a biker, it was still totally great to help them out.
Links to photos as they become available.

In other unrelated news, I'm making another Burj post soon. Development has been CRAZY - including finally some HD video that I pray someone is using for a documentary out there. More as it develops. |

| Ohayocon...Thursday night? |
[Sep. 7th, 2008|11:12 pm] |
OHAYOCON PEOPLE
Those of you rooming with me, is anyone opposed to us getting the hotel rooms Thursday through Sunday, instead of Friday through Sunday? An entire room is coming in Thursday night, but if I just have their room Thurs-Sun, it'll be separated from the other two ;___; I want to do all three Thurs-Sun, but I dunno if everyone will be able to come Thursday night...if a few people can't, that's ok, the hotel rooms are cheap enough that others could cover it for an extra $15 or so, but if an entire room can't come (I'm looking at you, melodious_me)...=/
This is confusing :x
...I think, that if not everyone is going to be there Thursday, we will still have enough people to cover the costs without increasing everyone's overall price too much. It shouldn't be too bad =/
Eh, ok, I guess I'll just add Thursday night to all three rooms. I'll do so tomorrow.
This has been a post entirely composed of Natalie thinking to herself lol. |

For starters, linked via Mental Floss are "Seven things that seem like a good idea at first but aren't". They're funny because they're true.
To step it up a notch, here's a video of a squirrel on the field at a recent White Sox vs. Indians game.
And for a knockout punch, here is a screencap of a 4chan thread, posted on Cute Overload(!), using cat macros to Metallica's "Enter Sandman".
==========
Rock, Paper, Shotgun has an interesting read reminiscing about Planetside (FYI this includes some language if you are viewing at work). While I didn't play the game myself (my brother did), I appreciate the post about sharing MMO game stories. Ironically, of the six or so MMOs I have played (clean for 2+ years!), the only one where I can really empathize is Asheron's Call 1. Not because it was my first MMO, but because it actually felt like you were a part of events that affected the game. |

| | chipper | ] | Cassie (NY) and I were discussing characters we can relate with so I decided to write up a few. 5 anime characters you relate to and why.
 Sheryl Nome- Macross frontier
Well DUH im going to put Sheryl on it. Its not like the past months Ive been RAVING about this character?! She has the flirtatious, fun attitude that I have, but holds her strong face and will under a past that is rough and harsh. I never knew who my real father was and never met my mother til i was 12 so I can related to feel cast aside and not cared about. I also know the feeling of trying to make people happy as best and as much as possible, even if it means hurting myself. Sheryl continues to sing for the people of Frontier to make them happy. She also loves to have someone close, that will help her guide herself through life, even though sometimes it can mean a bitter end, but as long as you got there happy it is all that matters.
Yumemiya Arika- Mai otome/Mai otome Z
Her courage to never give up is something that I really love about her. A lone girl who has a huge dream to become bigger than life! I feel like this character really shows myself in my true passion. I want to succeed and show the world that I have the power to stand even when I didnt come from the best times. Also she just wants to know love, like me, I still to this day have trouble with love. She comes to understand it through her friends more than a lover, which I do as well.

Nono- Gunbuster 2
A COUNTRY GIRL WITH A DREAM! HELL YEAH!!! >_< Nono is weird and funny and just awesome! :D She has a lot of the attitude quirks I do so I can relate with her on that.
 C-ko from Project A-ko
I also sometimes can be a naive little crybaby that just loves cute and yummy things. I cant cook either. So I would definately say C-ko fits the bill

Nekki Basara from Macross 7
MOTHER FUCKING BASARA!!! >_O GUTS COURAGE...SONG!!! nuff said!!

| The Force Unleashed = HOT |
[Sep. 7th, 2008|02:25 pm] |
Yesterday was the housewarming party at Nick, Jake, and Peter's new place. It was fun and filled with drunken debauchery (of course, not me, I only had a little bit of alcohol, some green apple Smirnoff which was yyyyyyuuuuuuummy x3), but the best part of the whole thing was definitely playing the Force Unleashed demon on their PS3.
Multiple times.
I've totally got it mastered now, by the way.
And holy shit, that game is seriously the funnest video game I have EVER played. In my life. Ever. ;___;
So now I'm on a quest to figure out some way to get a PS3, because it is not nearly as kickass on the 360 =/
But until I do, you know I will be over at their place every day starting September 16th, when the game is released XD
Cuz CGREIUVCNJFRTM;SVIOJTM that gaaaaaaaaaame ;__________; I've never been so enamored with a video game before (besides FF12 and FFTA2). And definitely not an action game, which I usually suck at. But omg Force Unleashed is so damn fun and pretty easy to pick up, although I still have trouble aiming shit with the Force Grip ability...but holy crap, throwing stuff at TIE fighters and making them explode? SWcratch that, throwing TIE fighters at squads of troopers?! OH GOD XD It's like...this game is just about figuring out the coolest ways to destroy stuff and kill guys >_> BUT IT'S SO MUCH FUN ;___;
Like, you can force grip a guy in the air, and then throw your lightsaber at him like a boomerang, all the while blasting force lightning at other guys while waiting for your lightsaber to get back to you, and then springing into the air with saber and twirling around with it like in Kingdom Hearts (haha Scribe and I were all WTF THIS IS TOTALLY KH2 GAME MECHANICS D: AWESOME), and sending a huge Force Push shockwave down when you land, knocking over everybody and sending mines detonating into walls...and then being hit by those detonations and pushed back a few meters XD Yeah, I managed to do all that at one point lol. OMG and when you pick crates up and use them as bowling balls, knocking over the guys coming at you? And sending stuff around corners to take people out before you even see each other...and bending metal supports to catch TIE fighters flying past? And Force gripping people and throwing them up hundreds of meters into the air and then letting them free-fall to their doom? Dropping stuff right on top of people and utterly crushing them...moving stuff around and watching the guys try to dodge out of the way, only to accidentally jump off the side of a balcony XD Picking up and guy and watching them try to hang on to stationary objects...batting back blaster bolts...HAHAHA SUCKING THE LIFE FORCE OUT OF GUYS YOU KILL TO REPLENISH YOUR HEALTH XD
...AND SO MUCH MORE T_T Pretty much this game just encourages brutality, to see what cool looking ways you can off grunts XD It's so horrible, BUT IT'S SO MUCH FUN \O_O/ *dies*
Ok, I'm done e_e |

This is gonna be a good one ^^
animeangel I saw an interview you did, you mind if I give you some advice?
Anyways, the sitch with Rachel has actually gotten kind of funny. On Friday we had gotten together before class (For what else, to study =-p), and we were talking about random stuff. Rachel's fiancee lives near florida, and Hanna had hit it the night before. So I asked if she was ok, and she was like "Yeah, I think so." We talked a little more about it, then moved on. Not like 3 minutes later, she lets her down and starts playing with it and shit =-p. And starts to get flirty again. It's actually funny now. I think she wants me to forget about her fiancee, so when he comes up she starts getting flirty in the hopes that I'll overlook it. Why? I think she's got a fear (and probably not all that irrational) that if I think she's not interested in me, I won't help her through that monster class. I'm not really sure what's going on with the situation, but I'm thinking I'll probably have to talk to her about it at some point in time.
But it gets better! There's another girl in my one group for class. Her name is Jaime, and she's also in the same monster class. I think she might actually like me. But I'm not 100% positive that it's not just because I'm the only person in our group who passed that class, and the rest of the group is a bunch of fuck offs. So she might be playing the same game that Rachel is.
I must have pissed off a higher diety or something =-p |

Hot damn I love that video. Black Light Burns is so fucking amazing. I hope they go on tour sometime soon. Their supposed to be fucking amazing live. Wes Borland is the fucking man. He goes from being the backbone of Limp Bizkit to creating his own badass solo project thats even better. They seriously need more love though. I don't know anyone else that even listens to them. BLB hasn't been around that long but I'm still surprised more people don't know their music. Their one of the few American bands I actually care to follow anymore.
Next Saturday is when I'm supposed to move into my apartment. School doesn't start for another week and a half after that so I'm just gonna move half my shit in then to make things easier when I pack for good on the 20th. I can't wait to pay my first and last months rent when I move in. Goodbye $700 v_v Still, I'm excited since it gets me the fuck out of Bainbridge, and it should be far enough away from campus that I don't have to deal with drunk jocks and other fuckwads yelling "O-H!" every 5 fucking seconds. Holy shit I hate that shit.
It needs to be sunnier out today so I can paint my models outside D: |

Assalamu Alaikum! LITTLE VALIK NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Little Valik Kolesnik is severely ill. His diagnosis is tumor in the 3d ventricle and heavy hydrocephalus. It’s already more than 1 year that Valik tries to survive. Within this period the boy bore many difficulties and heavy minutes: the heaviest surgery of tumor extraction, long medicines treatment, many shunt procedures. The shunts were blocked, and operation were needed again and again. In December, 2007 the boy was dismissed home in satisfied condition. But in February 2008 , during planned therapy, a new shock was waiting for his parents: a new huge tumor appeared in the same place where the previous one was extracted! The child was taken again to the Kiev Institute of neurosurgery in heavy condition. Valik was operated again, a special shunt was implanted into his brain – Omaya apparatus- which allows to pump off the moisture from the tumor. But moisture doesn’t stop to accumulate. It’s impossible to operate on Valik’s tumor in Ukraine, Ukrainian surgeons refuse, as it’s too difficult operation, and Valik may not survive… Unfortunately, Ukrainian doctors proposed to the boy’s mother to take him back home, and told her that too little time remains… It’s impossible to imagine what Irina, Valik’s mother feels, when she hears such words from the doctors…. It’s better not to know how it feels when you hear the moans of your own little child, and to see how the temperature burns him, how the heavy brain pressure causes a lot of pain… Can you imagine what his mother feels which she strokes his head having so many scars, and knows that she’s helpless?? But her son wants to live, mashaAllah! He is gaining weight very well, he can move his legs and arms, he can change position of his body… He is almost blind, but he recognizes the mother’s voice easily! And, despite of huge pressure, his brain is functioning! But will he live? This is the main question! Will he have the chance to enjoy life? The only possibility to help the boy to survive is to extract a big tumor which presses at his brain. Surgeons from the Munich clinics Scwabing can do such operation inshaAllah, but they ask for it 65 thousand Euro. But the boy’s family has no money. Now they even don’t have enough money to buy medicines, food and pampers… Valik has so little time, each day he feels worse and worse….. The parents of the child ask you for your help! Please, help to save their little son! Superintendent Kathy Cox of a Georgia school district won $1 million on the game-show "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?" by answering 11 questions correctly. This article provides a quiz link to those questions: "Are You Smarter Than Kathy Cox?"
The questions were easy, so I feel silly saying this: but I totally am.
Icon relevant because if this "achievement" is laudable, it portrays the state of our education system. |

| | None | ] | Greetings all,
Quick update since this weekend's been quite busy for me.
Today I went to both the wedding service and reception for my college roommate of 4 years, Matt McPhillips. He and a wonderful lady by the name of Lorena Paterson tied the knot today under the blessings of our Lord and Savior!
Got to see all my college suitemates again and although they all have real jobs in the real world now, it's nice to see they're donig fine and that they also took the time to congratulate me on my own efforts in going more towards the self-employment route.
They were all surprised at the changes to my camera gear since I had last seen them all and of course Matt was appreciative of the fact I was shooting randomly at the event to help them get good photos.
Talked to the hired-in photo people. They had a sweet HD-grade commercial video camera on a dolly w/lighting rig attached. Older guy used a Nikon D3. Assistant #1 used a Canon 5D and some wider angle lenses. Assistant #2 seemed to have a Canon 5D and some other body on him at once; one with a nice white L-glass lens (70-200 I think) and a shorter lens. Thankfully hired-in photo people did not mind me carrying around the only other "big professional camera" in the room out of all the guests and taking photos anyway. I kept it low-key for the evening but ended up taking slightly under 400 shots with some that I'm sure the couple will like.
It was cool...they taught me some aspects of what they do working as a team and I got to give them cards and explain that I tend to do freelance / shoot for cons. They were pretty receptive to taking a look at my work. Maybe I just scored a photo job ^^. We'll see.
Food was great but I felt like I ate too much. Got on the dance floor and did some fun dances / cha-cha with friends. Got paparazzi'd when I caught the garder belt XD...
Theme was cool - my roommate has always been into the sea and water so there were aspects of nautical decorations everywhere such as the table placement cards, gifts, decorations, lighting etc. DJ could've used another few lights - it seemed a bit sparse until they got the crazy disco colord lights going everywhere then it was really fun.
Overall a long but enjoyable day. I wish Matt and Lorena the very best and prosperous future!
------------------------------------------------------
Now I end this, for tomorrow I'm called into going up to the restaurant for a huge 9/11 tribute biker ride...event...thingy that I'll be taking photos at.
I don't know if we do get the claimed 600+ bikes as to how we're going to fit them all in the parking lot but we'll see. Another long but probably fun day tomorrow - we shall see.
More as it develops. |

[Sep. 7th, 2008|12:26 am] |
Some of the commenters on this article protested that it was "victim-blaming", but I personally see some very good advice. Not every situation is the same, but I'm certain the points this article/study makes exist.
Women Are Responsible For Inequalities in the Workplace
It’s not news that women tend to hit glass ceilings in the workplace far sooner than men do. It’s also not news that women tend to earn less money than their male counterparts in exactly the same positions.
Is it possible though, women are actually partially responsible for these inequalities? Recent studies say yes. (Please, read the article before reading on through my response!)
The study argues that women need to take the glass ceiling into their own hands, "play the game", and start acting in the same professional manner that men do. The advice it gives is the same advice a man would get - which is precisely what equality is about.
I'm going to stop arguing in defense of the article and just say what I think here: There is bias out there against women, but there are also those without bias. Not everyone is out to get you. What everyone is waiting for is for you to prove yourself, just like any man would. People are not going to invest in a whiner. Yes, it'll probably be harder - but if you give up, you give the women who follow you a bad name. And at the end of the day, these men are thinking more with their wallets than with their penii. If you can make them money, you're in.
In my opinion, you can crush ideas better from the top. Furthermore, fighting ideas is a lot more difficult than proving yourself. And by proving yourself, you disprove them. |
